Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- The trend of WWE premium live events with fewer matches is expected to continue, according to Fightful Select. The company’s been pleased with how recent shows will smaller cards have turned out and like how it allows them to stack television cards, especially the SmackDown before a PLE.
- After Sean Ross Sapp’s sources contradicted their’s regarding the WWE Performance Center moving to Las Vegas, WrestleVotes followed up and was told their source is “still confident in our initial report about Vegas,” but noted that the move won’t be an “overnight thing” and could take time.
- Asked about the reported move at a press conference and if it would involve the UFC Apex, UFC President Dana White replied, “That’s none of my business. I know nothing about it [laughs]. It’s none of my business. We’ll let WWE talk about their business.”
- Swerve Strickland’s new AEW contract runs though at least 2028 and is one of the biggest in company history, says Fightful Select. Strickland’s previous deal didn’t expire until next March, but both sides agreed it didn’t reflect Swerve’s current position at AEW.
- Speaking of Swerve, on The Rich Eisen Show last week he was asked why things “didn’t work out” for him at WWE and Strickland answered, “Political moves. Just political moves, I can say. I’ll just leave it at ‘political moves.’”
- WWE moving Corey Graves back to color commentary in their upcoming announcer moves isn’t an indication they weren’t happy with his work as SmackDown’s play-by-play person, according to PW Torch. It’s just that new production head Lee Fitting is a long-time friend and “big booster” of Joe Tessitore. Fitting has been working to get Tessitore hired for play-by-play since shortly after he started at WWE.
- Also from Fightful: Berto/Humberto Carrillo is the latest wrestler to re-sign with WWE. His cousin and tag partner Angel Garza announced he’d re-signed last month.
