Paris Olympics 2024 India, Day 10 Highlights: It was a day of heartbreaks for India in Paris. In a matter of a couple of hours, there were defeats in bronze medal matches for Lakshya Sen in badminton and for Anant Jeet Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan in the mixed team skeet event, followed by a tearful quarterfinal exit for wrestler Nisha Dahiya.
Lakshya, who was off to a strong start against Malaysian Lee Zii Jia by taking the opening game then a 8-3 lead in the second, went on to lose the match in three games to finish fourth.
Avinash Sable has qualified for the steeplechase final with a fifth place finish in his heat.
On the final day of shooting events, India had a shot at a shotgun medal as Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Naruka finished 4th in mixed team skeet qualification to reach the bronze medal match against China. But they finished fourth too after losing the match by one point.
In wrestling, Nisha was leading 8-1 in the quarterfinal but suffered an injury to her right arm. She continued to fight despite multiple medical interventions but couldn’t hold off her Norther Korean opponent, leaving the mat in tears after a 8-10 defeat.
Earlier, in table tennis, there was some good news. Indian women’s team defeated 4th seeds Romania in a thrilling round of 16 match 3-2 to reach the quarterfinal where they will take on either Germany or USA. After fine runs in the singles event, Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula – along with Archana Kamath – began their team event with a solid win. Manika won both her singles matches, while Sreeja-Archana started off with a doubles win.
