EUGENE — Oregon volleyball’s new look lineup opened the 2024 season with a competitive straight set loss to a top five opponent.
Mimi Colyer had 11 kills and Roberta Purashaj had 29 assists for the No. 10 Ducks, who fell to No. 4 Pitt 3-0 (25-12, 27-25, 25-23) in front of 2,319 at Matthew Knight Arena Friday night.
“I think our team learned a lot that first set about what it’s going to take to be competitive at this level,” Oregon coach Matt Ulmer said. “A lot of new pieces, but I thought we adapted well. We out-hit them, we out-blocked them, everything else after the first set. Those are all good signs. That grit, that toughness factor, what it’s going to take to win those deuce sets, that’s where we’re going to have to grow the most.”
