Horse Racing Nation’sProspect Watch scans all upcoming entries for starters early in their careers who sold for more than $500,000 at their most recent auction or whose dams or siblings are graded-stakes winners.
It’s the height of 2-year-old season at Saratoga, Del Mar and across the country, with notable youngsters debuting nearly every day this weekend. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the 87 runners who are early in their career that we might be talking about a lot in the future.
Thursday
Saratoga race 1. Debuting for trainer Carlos David is Blakely’s Wish, a 2-year-old filly by Honest Mischief and a half-sister to Grade 1 winnerFirenze Fire. She will try to get the first win for her new sire, as Honest Mischief offspring are 0-for-11 so far with only one third-place finish. Although this is her debut, she’s the 2-1 favorite in this field of seven New York bred maiden special weight fillies for owners Mr. Amore Stable.
Del Mar race 5. Debuting for trainer Craig Lewis,Orange Thunderis a 2-year-old filly by Clubhouse Ride and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Closing Remarks. She will break from the rail as the 7-2 second choice on the morning line in a five-furlong maiden special turf sprint for California-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Friday
Colonial race 4. Debuting in a maiden special turf sprint is Girl of Faith, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Just One Time. Trainer Keri Brion sends out the New York-bred 2-year-old filly by Catholic Boy for owner Serio Racing Stables.
Saturday
Ellis Park race 1. Debuting for trainer Brandon Walsh isCivetta, a 2-year-old filly by Into Mischief and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Santin. She’s a homebred for Godolphin and starts in a turf sprint on the grass. Her 6-year-old brother by Distorted Humor won the 2022 Arlington Million (G1) and the 2022 Turf Classic Stakes (G1).
Sunday
Ellis Park race 6. Undefeated in two starts,Most Wantedis ready tojump into stakes waters for trainer Brad Cox. The 3-year-old son of Candy Ride is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Life Is Good. and goes in the $275,000 Ellis Park Derby for owners Gary and Mary West.
Ellis Park race 8. A 2-year-old filly by Authentic,Adeerawon her debut on May 31 at Churchill Downs before finishing fifth in the muddy Debutante stakes June 30. Here she goes in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) at seven furlongs for 2-year-old fillies. She’s a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Newgate, trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by L and N Racing and Jerry Caroom.
