PARIS — The U.S. women’s volleyball team is going for another Olympic gold medal.
Just three years after Team USA won its first gold in the event, the Americans will look to repeat the achievement on Sunday after stunning five-set thriller against Brazil on Thursday. The U.S. will meet the winner of Italy-Turkey in the final.
After a tight back-and-forth battle in the fifth set with teams trading points, the Americans slowly started to pull away when they went up 12-8 on a kill from Annie Drews. Brazil reeled off two quick points but after that the U.S. took control, winning 15-11 when Kathryn Plummer delivered the decisive kill.
Drews finished with 18 points, while Plummer led the Americans with 26. Avery Skinner recorded 19.
